Palm Sunday Orthodox

Palm Sunday Orthodox is a celebration of the triumphal and solemnly entry of Jesus  into Jerusalem on the back of a young donkey while people welcome him with Palms and Olives branches and that is the origin of the name Palm Sunday (it took place on Sunday)

Jesus started his procession toward Jerusalem at the village of Bethpage where today, there are two churches – a Greek Orthodox and a Franciscan catholic (Bethpage Church) – to commemorate that event.

When Jesus arrived with his students to Bethpage, the news about the resurrection of Lazarus (see Tomb of Lazarus) already got ahead and this is why thousands of people went to see Jesus along his procession to Jerusalem.

Palm Sunday Orthodox in Jerusalem

In Jerusalem the Orthodox which are represented by the Greek, the Armenian, the Coptic, the Ethiopian and the Syrian celebrate Palm Sunday at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre – each by its own area within the church of the holy sepulchre and together by each in a processions around the Rotunda where the the holy sepulchre is located inside.

Palm Sunday Orthodox Video

My Video about the Celebration of Palm Sunday in Jerusalem starts with a prayer inside the Ethiopian church that is located right next to the church of the Holy Sepulchre. Then, a procession is taken place around the Dome of Saint Helena Chapel with in the compound of Deir El Sultan which is right above the Chapel of Saint Helena where the Cross of Jesus was found. Deir El Sultan is also right next to station number 9 of the Via Dolorosa which is located with the Coptic area.

From the Ethiopian celebration we are moving to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre where we join the Greeks at the end of their prayer within the the Greek Orthodox Catholicon. At the end of the Greek prayer,  and from there they will start a procession around the Rotunda. Right after the Greek we shall watch a procession 3 times around the Rotunda by the Armenia followed by the Coptic and the Syrian. This procession will end at the stone of Anointing.

You are also invited to watch the video about the Palm Sunday by the Catholic here in Jerusalem!

That is it for today, and until we meet again in my next video, Let’s All Live the Jerusalem Experience!!!
