40 days after the resurrection of Jesus, in the presence of eleven of his apostles, Jesus was taken up to heaven in his resurrected body from the Mount of Olives.
The description of the Ascension of Jesus to heaven is given fully only in the Acts of the Apostles, but is briefly described also in the Gospel of Luke at 24:50 – 53 and in the ending of Mark at 16 16:19.
According to Christian tradition, the spot from which Jesus ascendant to heaven is located on the Mount of Olives, inside where it is today the Chapel of the Ascension. Within this chapel, there is a slab of stone with the footprint of Jesus as he was ascending into heaven.
