Herod’s Gate Video
Herod’s gate is one of the newest gate among Jerusalem Gates. During the build up of the wall of Jerusalem by the Suleiman the Magnificent, there was a small wicket gate situated in front of the current gate, which was rarely opened. In year 1875, in order to provide a passageway from the Muslin quarter to the new constructed neighborhoods at the northern side of the old city, the Ottoman made a breach in the northern part of the walls and closed the original gate.
Let’s all live the Jerusalem Experience!!!!
The gate is named after Herod the Great on the believe that near this gate use to stand Herod Antipas’s house at the time of Jesus Crucifixion. Back in the Crusaders’ period, a church was build near the this gate. In this place today stands the church Dir Al Ads.
